Welcome to a panel talk to celebrate the winners of The International Ibsen Award 2022 – Back to Back Theatre company.
Whether you are familiar with their work or are seeing their productions The Shadow Whose Prey the Hunter Becomes or Ganesh Versus the Third Reich for the first time, this panel talk will offer a unique insight into one of the world’s most acclaimed theatre companies and the winner of the 2022 Ibsen International Award for Theatre.
What makes Back to Back Theatre unique? What defines their work? How has their work evolved over the years? How does their work relate to international theatre trends?
Back to Back Theatre have been game changers in theatre, offering a way of making theatre that recognizes the importance of differing approaches to storytelling, narrative and gesture, to ways of thinking about the past and retelling the present.
Australian author Chloe Hopper, Australian arts journalist Alison Croggon, and the director of the Arctic Arts Festival Ragnheidur Skúladóttir join academic, critic, and Ibsen award committee member Maria Delgado to discuss Back to Back Theatre.
The discussion will focus on the company’s origins, contributions to theatre, and the development of their work.
